Walls constructed with mortar of pain and silent regret

His castle of solitude she claims as her heart’s new home

He gives her solace in his realm, but never opens the door


Over the past several years, I’ve learned much about poetry and poetic forms.  While I enjoy writing free verse the most, I do enjoy the challenge of attempting new forms.  Above is my first attempt at a “Sijo”.




  1. Beautifully done. I believe you captured the form, and thought, behind the Sijo poetry form quite nicely. You make it look almost easy, down to the twist/turn in the last line.
