Christmas, Present

Tinsel dances from the heartbreak

of silence that echoes in contrite ache

Twinkling lights reflect the tears

held captive in her amber eyes

Adorned by curling ribbon, tied tight around her smile

feigned with acquaintances not worth her while

The air smells of wintry spices, but the cold burns

with her every inhale, she is lost in its foggy veil

Another Christmas season passes her by,

as she searches for her rhyme and begs for the reason
