Remembrance

Fifteen years ago, our lives stopped with your last breath. We picked up the pieces that could be seen. The slivers in our hearts were buried too deep.  I have watched you reincarnated into a young man you will never know, but yet you do.  He magnifies the best of us both and leaves me breathless with the parts that are solely you.  I owe you so much — anger, regret, love and gratitude.  The baby you left me with was the last gift to me from you.  The man I have raised is the best gift from me to you.
